Louis Vuitton Cruise Petite Malle

Handbags

Louis Vuitton just had an amazing Cruise 2017 collection. The theme? Brazil. And what a beautiful collection it is. Though the bags featured are still something that would require research, let me show you what’s up and running on the brand’s website.

You can purchase exclusively only some of the bags on the runway. Naturally a limited edition collection, don’t let it pass you by!

The collection is of vibrantly printed diagonal Epi Leather. And some with a soccer painting – tribute to Brazil’s sport – and honoring tribute to Brazilian artist Aldemir Martins.

Louis Vuitton recently presented their Cruise 2017 Collection at the Niterói Museum of Contemporary Arts in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The sporty collection pays homage to the city’s culture which presents vibrant colors, football and Grand Prix prints with a touch of Parisian flair. The star of the show is the Boombox Bag which is made of the Petite Malle bags which can even play music through Bluetooth. The iconic Speedy Bag features racing prints with Vuitton logo emblazoned on it and comes with a combination of the House classic materials such as the Damier, Epi and Monogram Canvas. The City Steamer gets an edgy update with a variety of pockets and rivets. Louis Vuitton introduces the Football print seen on the Steamer and Twist bags.

It’s pretty clear at one glance where the inspiration for these Louis Vuitton Cruise 2017 Petite Malle bags come from. Tropical hues, racing stripes, greens on gold, even those sequinned animal prints. Yes, set against the dynamic tropicality of Rio de Janeiro, these iconic beauties are given the collection’s mandatory flourishes. Definitely fun pieces to add to anyone’s bag wardrobe, the small Petite Malle perfectly encapsulates the legacy of a luxury trunk maker, and is perhaps the closest any of us will own a ‘trunk’ from Louis Vuitton.

If, however, you’re a ‘purist’ and prefer something that comes in the house’s classic monogram, well, here you go. Buffered with bright yellow rubber stubs for a twist that’s both fun and playful, the Petite Malle can be worn across the body (or over the shoulder) with the use of its additional sling, or handheld as a clutch, which is what I would do myself. No word yet on their exact prices (or when each style will hit Singapore’s Louis Vuitton boutiques) so do stay tuned for more updates.

Sun, sand and sports: Louis Vuitton debuted their 2017 Cruise Collection in Rio de Janeiro

After Chanel’s historic cruise show in Cuba, Louis Vuitton chose the vibrant and colorful nation of Brazil to host their own Cruise 2017 show. Rio de Janeiro’s Niteroi Contemporary Art Museum was the venue where the who’s who of the fashion world descended including LV’s A-List faces Alicia Vikander and Jaden Smith as well as a slew of celebs including Catherine Deneuve, Zendaya, Alessandra Ambrosio and Isabeli Fontana.

The museum stands on the edge of a cliff and offers a stunning backdrop of blue waters with rugged mountains in the distance.

The building’s winding red ramp doubled as the catwalk where models flaunted sporty and colorful designs.

From the fabrics chosen to the silhouettes, there was a definite athleisure vibe to the collection.

Color was another keyword, with contrasting hues placed side by side for maximum impact.

The splashy prints were inspired by Brazil’s favorite sport: soccer.

Ruffles and frills also made a comeback with this collection, placed at the hip and bust of otherwise simple shift style dresses.

One accessories front, there were few heeled shoes to be seen, they had been replaced by chunky laced up flip flops in stark white and black.

Speaking about the location and collection, Nicolas Ghesquière stated,“I so admire the power of Oscar Niemeyer’s conviction. His vision, his radicality, his utopia even. Being able to show a fashion collection in such an architecturally powerful space is a sensorial experience. In Rio de Janeiro, what I saw most of all was movement and an explosive energy that lives somewhere between modernism and tropicality. I was fascinated by the constant duality between nature and urbanism and the pictorial explosion it creates. For me, the main question was how to incorporate into my collection all these elements that are part of Brazilian culture, without forgetting that I am just a visitor who brings his own Parisian and French cultural references to the moment.”

Looks like this year’s cruise collections will take us on a tour of the world, and we can’t wait to see the next destination!
